Vocal Ensemble Auditions
Your audition will consist of 4 parts
Brief warm-up to hear/place your voice.
Song of your choice a cappella
Tonal memory
Sight singing
The brief warm-up will be directed by Mr. DS to find your voice placement (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass). There is no preparation needed for this step.
The song of your choice must be 16-32 measures (less than a minute) of a song of your choice. This song may be of any genre or style, whatever you feel shows off your voice the most, and will be sung a cappella or without accompaniment. If you do not have a choice of song, you can always sing Happy Birthday.
The tonal memory will be a series of notes that Mr. DS will play on the piano, and you will sing them back.
The sight singing will be 4 measures of music that you will have a starting pitch and a minute to look at before singing back.
Each of these parts of the audition is to assess your strengths and weaknesses in how you learn music - practice, memory, and music reading. People learn music in many different ways; you do not need to be perfect at any or all of these aspects to have a successful audition. Your best is all we can ask for.
